Finally, after months of darkening days, we find ourselves on the other side of Winter Solstice, heading into the light. It seems right that the gradual return of sunlight comes at the time of year when we find ourselves giving to others in bigger ways, be it for Christmas, Hanukkah, or Solstice gifts, or as donations to charities and causes we believe in. When we give, we bring light to another and at the same time make space inside ourselves to receive. When we give, we become an active part of our families and communities.
Here on the farm, we are celebrating with homemade candles, chapbooks of hand-stamped poems, many chocolate truffles, and hearty meals. As we come to the close of 2014, we want to thank you all for being a part of the Good Heart community, and invite you to extend your giving to those in our community who could use some help in accessing the healthy, local food you’ve filled your bellies with over the past two seasons.
Our mission here at Good Heart is to grow healthy, whole foods and to make them available to people of all income levels, increasing the accessibility of local food to low-income Vermonters. The main way we do this is through our partnership with the NOFA-Vermont Farm Share Program. For every dollar Good Heart Farmstead raises, NOFA-VT will match us, and this allows us to offer CSA shares at 50% off to income-eligible Vermonters. Because NOFA-VT is a non-profit, your donation is tax-deductible.
Through the Farm Share Program, we made fresh, local food accessible to 7 families during the 2014 summer share and 7 families during the winter share who otherwise would not be able to afford a CSA. With your help, we can increase the number of families we are able to reach and put more local food on the table in 2015.
You can donate online by clicking over to NOFA-VT’s website. To ensure your donation benefits our farm members, please write “Good Heart Farmstead” in the “Farm Share Designation” box.
You can also mail a check made out to NOFA-VT with “Good Heart Farmstead” written in the memo to:
NOFA-VT, PO Box 697, Richmond, VT 05477
We are grateful to all of you who are able to help grow our community in this important and generous way. For all of the families who you will help, we say:
Thanks for giving the gift of local food.
