CSA Newsletter: Week 1

The Harvest Begins

CSA pick-up on Monday and Thursday

As I write the rain sprinkles on the yurt roof and a bird sings outside in the trees.  The fields (and farmers) have been asking for rain, and this nice soaking is a welcome reprieve from the hot sun.  I’ve always loved summer rains, but farming brings the necessity of balance into greater focus.  Seeds and plants and people need water just as much as they need light and warmth.

The rain is forecasted to last into Tuesday, and we’ll happily harvest in the rain for the first CSA pick-up on Monday.  Please remember to bring a bag for your veggies to the pick-up with you.  Here is the pick-up schedule for the season:

Montpelier: Mondays @ Union Elementary School from 5:00-6:30
Worcester: Thursdays @ Good Heart Farmstead from 4:30-6:30

If you know you’ll miss a share, please contact us at least a day ahead of time to make other arrangements, or have a friend pick up for you.  Because we don’t have much storage space, unclaimed shares will be donated to the Food Shelf.

We still have shares available, so please spread the news to friends!  All shares purchased after the first week will be pro-rated.

Along with the Veggie & Herb CSA, we have a flexible Farm Store Membership, in which you purchase credit to spend down each week.  If you miss a week, your credit carries over to the next.  The Farm Store Membership is a great option for folks who don’t need a full share, but still want to eat fresh local food all season while supporting a community farm.  With a 10% discount built into it, you’ll receive a $300 value for only $270.

Please contact us with any questions you may have.  We look forward to seeing you at the CSA pick-up this week!  See below for this week’s harvest list.
