CSA Newsletter: Week 3

A Solstice CSA Volunteer Day

CSA Pick-up June 15 & 18

Weekends away are hard to come by this time of year, but we managed a get-away for a friend’s wedding on Saturday, leaving the farm in the trusty hands of Karen, who is like a farm crew wrapped up in one person.  She’s been with us from the beginning, and we are so thankful to have her help as we continue to grow food for you all.

As summer solstice nears, we are approaching the moment when vegetables suddenly burst from the fields.  Peas and summer squash are just about there, the tomatoes are beginning to flower, and bunching onions and baby beets are ready for harvesting.   As new crops begin to mature, Monday and Thursday harvests may differ slightly to accommodate what needs to be picked, though we will always balance it to make sure each location is getting the same options (for example, Thursday may get summer squash first, with Monday getting it the next time around).  We’ll do our best to give you an accurate harvest list each week, though there will occasionally be tweaks depending on what the garden is giving.

Next Saturday is our first CSA volunteer work day. Come up to Good Heart any time between 10:00-2:00 to get your hands in the soil and see where your food comes from.  You can come for the whole day or drop in for a little bit.  For those here around 12:30, we’ll have a big farm salad to share.  Please let us know at pick-up or by email if you plan to come. We look forward to seeing you out at the farm cultivating the community of the CSA!

In Good Heart,
Katie and Edge
