Happy Solstice!
CSA Pick-up June 22 & 25
The sun shone long over the weekend, a buoy in the sky that didn’t sink until 8:41, with its light still reaching past the horizon after that. Thanks to the clear sky, long day, and some helping hands of CSA members on Saturday, we got 900 feet of garden beds planted full of lettuce, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower! And thanks to a rainy Sunday morning we fully enjoyed a restful Father’s Day. We hope you all did as well!
Coming up this Thursday, June 25 is a Rural Vermont Open Barn Part at Rogers Farmstead in Berlin, from 6-8 pm. Edge and I are board members of Rural Vermont, which does great work advocating for Vermont farmers and eaters to create a food system and policies that support the viability of Vermont farms and direct access to local food. In their own words, Rural Vermont “amplifies the voices of farmers and advocates for a fair food system.” The Open Barn Party is in celebration of new Raw Milk legislation, and it is free and open to all. There will be raw milk and cookies, farm tours, and farmers telling stories. We get all our milk from Rogers Farmstead, and can tell you first hand it is delicious. We invite you to join us on Thursday at the Open Barn Party!
As we round out the first month of the CSA, we want to thank you again for being part of the Good Heart community. As we enter the height of summer and more vegetables ripen for harvest each week, we are reminded every day of the roots we are all establishing here. Besides growing food, it’s our goal to grow community. We work hard and joyfully in the fields to grow food that will feed and support you, and we thank you for supporting us through the CSA. Food is at the base of everything, and together we are part of a larger movement of creating a stronger, healthier base to start from.
We’ll see you all at pick-up! See harvest list below.
In Good Heart,
Katie and Edge

These crops will rotate through the shares this week and next:
