Last Week of the Summer Share
CSA Pick-up September 28 & October 1
How is it that the last week of September has come? As we drove home from Maine today, we saw the trees changing color where they had been green just four days earlier, and so it seems that fall really is settling in. On the farm we see the change, too: the tomato plants done, the broccoli and cauliflower peaking, the first hints of frost sweetening the carrots and kale. Though the days are getting shorter and the nights cooler, the heavy harvests of roots and hardy greens are just beginning, and as we go into October, the fields are still stocked well with fresh vegetables.
This week marks the end of our summer CSA share, and before waxing on about the fall, we want to thank you all for being a part of the Good Heart CSA. Your membership in our farm is what makes it all work, and it’s not an overstatement to say that without you, we’d not be doing this. What we hope for most is that the work we put into growing food translates into your kitchens and onto your plates as joy–not just the joy of planting seeds and working in soil, but the joy that sprouts from a nourished body and heart. We may not know where each seed will land or where each meal will take us, but we do know that the food we eat propels us through each day, and as your farmers, we are honored and humbled to be a part of the simple and profound act of feeding you and your families.
As the summer share winds to a close, we invite you to join the Fall Harvest CSAshare to continue receiving a fresh share of vegetables (plus some value-added items like pesto and sauerkraut) October through December. The Monday Montpelier pick-up location will move to the Skinny Pancake, and the Worcester pick-up day will move to Tuesday.
We have 8 more subsidized shares available, which means income-eligible individuals and families can receive a share at 1/2 price (only $160). To receive a subsidized share, please sign up through NOFA-VT’s Farm Share Program.
We look forward to seeing you all this week, and many of you throughout the fall and ealry winter. Thanks for letting us be your farmers.
In Good Heart,
Katie and Edge
