Get a Good Heart CSA Cookbook when you become a member!
Snow! It flurried down onto our fields, making us especially thankful for the greenhouse we put up last fall. Despite the cold blip, we are looking forward to warmer weather, and will be transplanting cucumbers, summer squash, and celery this week.
The CSA begins on May 30, and there is still time to sign up for your share. Thanks to our greenhouse, we are starting this season stronger than ever, and we invite you to enjoy the harvest with us this summer. The CSA costs $27.50/week and runs for 18 weeks. That’s $495 for the whole summer, but let’s break it down this way:
- When split between 2 people, the CSA cost is just $13.75/wk per person, or $1.96/day per person.
- When split between 4 people, the CSA cost is just $6.86/wk per person, or .98 cents/day
At Good Heart, we believe that investing in our health creates a strong foundation that allows us to bring our gifts and passions to the world. We also believe that good food should be accessible to everyone, and that’s why we love the CSA model. When you become a CSA member, you get access to fresh, local food at a great price that supports both you and the farm.
Our CSA goal for this month is 20 members. Thanks to the infrastructure investments we made last year, we are able to get a jump on many crops for this coming season, but it also means we need to meet our financial goals to make it all work. Farm Stand Credit is another option to become a Good Heart Member. Will you be one of 10 CSA Members to sign up this week?
Are you planting a garden this summer? We’ll be having TWO weekends of plant sales! Thinking of growing extra herbs, tomatoes, or greens to supplement your CSA share? Need some advice on what to plant and how to do it? Edge and I will be available to help you with garden planning and variety questions, so come by to start your garden off strong this year!
• Saturday, May 21st at the farm from 9:00-2:00.
This first day we’ll have tomatoes (big ones!), onions, herbs and some flowers for sale.
• Saturday, May 28 @ Doty Memorial School from 9:00-1:00.
• Sunday, May 29 @ the farm from 10:00-3:00.
A full range of seedlings will be available this weekend, including tomatoes, peppers, onions, herbs, lettuce, kale, chard, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, winter squash, and flowers. *10% of proceeds will go to the Doty School’s Local Foods Fund to help purchase more local food for school meals.*
Last but not least, we are excited to unveil the Good Heart CSA Cookbook this year! We’re working with Suzanne Podhaizer of Farm to Table Consulting to create a cookbook tailored to our CSA, and exclusive to CSA members. We’ll have them printed to hand out to members in June!
