make your summer a good hearted one
It’s happened. The leap, the light, the full energy of the sun, the heat—it’s here and we’re outside in it all, responding to the lengthening days and mix of rain and sun just like the plants. We’re in full speed now, but powered enough to do it, just about over the tipping point from preparation to harvest (okay, the preparation is continual, but then again, so is the growth).
The first CSA harvest will be next Monday and Thursday. I’ll send out a harvest list at the end of the week to let you know what will be in the first share. There’s still time to become a Good Heart Member—sign up on our website or print out and mail in this sign-up form. We wrapped up May with a plant sale, and wow it was so fun to meet and talk with so many folks about their gardens. Thanks to all who came to the sale. Our mission is to help make local food more accessible, and growing your own is one of the best ways to do that—we are grateful to be able to help your gardens grow this season!
We are also grateful to be able to connect with the Doty Memorial School and support their Local Foods Fund. 10% of plant sale proceeds benefit the Local Foods Fund, and the school chefs also asked for some of those proceeds in plants for the school’s community garden plots. The students tend the plots and grow food that the school kitchen buys from them—a great connection that gets hands in the soil and local food in bellies!
