CSA Pick-up June 27 & 30
The gardens are growing their way to the summer tipping point: the first cucumber harvest was Thursday, green tomatoes are populating in the greenhouse, the squash plants are soaking up the summer heat, and everything is so thankful for the recent rain! Of course it helps that it is officially summer now—we hope you all had a wonderful Summer Solstice and enjoyed the longest day and full moon together!
Last night it struck me how amazing it is that this farm is supported by all of you. We began our CSA in 2013 with 18 members, and have steadily grown each season to 75 members this year. In that time, we’ve transformed an open field that was long ago high pasture for cows back into a working farm. We’ve sawed and hammered and raised buildings and hoop houses. We’ve plowed and hoed, broadforked and wheelbarrowed, seeded and cultivated and harvested. And we’ve been able to do all of this because of you. The CSA is truly what makes Good Heart run, and we are so grateful to be your farmers, to grow your food, to share in the land with you.
As we enter the last week of June, we’ve got some new crops coming on for the harvest.
Projected Harvest:
- Cucumbers
- Garlic Scapes
- Lettuce heads
- Bunching Onions
- Peas
- Herbs: basil, cilantro, thyme, sage
And a potential harvest for these crops:
- Zucchini/summer squash
- Kale
- Kohlrabi
- Arugula bunches
The Farm Stand is open this Friday and Saturday from 3:30-6:30* (when the height of summer comes on with load of tomatoes, cukes, zukes, onions, etc, we’ll expand the farm stand hours again). Farm Stand Credit Members, CSA Members, and general public all welcome to shop at the Farm Stand this weekend!
In the Farm Stand:
- Kale
- Kohlrabi
- Bunching Onions
- Beets
- Cucumbers
- Herbs: oregano, thyme
- Mesclun mix
We are also really looking forward to our workshop “Cooking Your Share” led by Lisa Mase of Harmonized Cookery. You can sign up online here: Cooking Your Share. CSA Members will have the first opportunity to sign up for the workshop, and we will open it up to the public after 7/12. There is a limit of 15 participants, to sign up early to guarantee your spot!
I also want to share with you a weekend retreat, led by our friend Fearn Lickfield with Anjali Budreski and Lydia Russell: The Wild Green Heart of Summer: A Summer Retreat in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Connect with Nature through Yoga, Dance, Meditation, Ritual & More In A Vibrant Community Setting. July 15-17, this three-day retreat is held at Sky Meadow retreat center in Stannard, and includes lodging and meals. Click on the link above to learn more!
We wish you all a lovely weekend!
In Good Heart,
Katie and Edge
