So much good!

CSA Pick-up 8/29 and 9/1

We are excited to give you an update our our T-shirt Fundraiser: We’ve sold 44 shirts so far and have raised $450!

After working with the folks at Booster, we’ve improved the design AND we’ve added more styles for you to choose from: you can now get a regular t, ladies cut, long-sleep, tank-top, or hoodie.  We have surpassed the minimum needed to print, and are now on our way to making real progress to our 100 shirt goal.  That will give us over $900 to put directly to subsidized CSA shares for low-income families.  This fundraiser will end in 16 days!  Will you help us reach our goal?

On the farm we are busy busy seeding and transplanting for the fall harvest.  Storage roots like carrots, beets, turnips, radishes, and rutabaga are all up and growing.  Many successions of spinach are making their way into the fields.  Kale, collards, chard, mizuna, and arugula are all growing taller and leafier.  Sprouts are appearing on the Brussels, the leeks are getting quite hefty, and all the onions are out of the field and curing in the barn.  At the same time, new successions of beans and peas are coming into production, and we’ve just set out more lettuce, basil, and cilantro starts in the field for late season pesto and salsa making, and the tomatoes are still cranking along.

I love this time of year as the days are hot but pleasant, when rain comes more regularly, and we feel the subtle change in season that tells us a slower pace will settle in a few months.  The transition keeps us alert to the field and necessary succession plantings, and at the same time we can take a moment and see all that has grown this summer, and the many harvests yet to come.

The summer CSA will end on October 6, and the Fall Harvest Share will begin on October 10.  We invite you to enjoy the next season of hearty roots, greens, and more with us!  You can find a full explanation of the fall share, including sample shares, on our website.  The early discount price of $295 is good through next Wednesday, 8/31.  Please feel free to email or ask us questions at the pick-up!
