thanks to all who came out for our Pizza Night! It was a beautiful (and delicious!) evening, and thanks to you we raised $600 for the Farm Share Program.
CSA Pick-up 9/19 and 9/22
Before September winds to a close, Edge, Waylon and I are headed out on a camping trip to the Adirondacks, to get some rest in mountains that are very dear to our hearts, climb and hike, and celebrate the wedding of good friends. While we’re gone, our friend Angela will be keeping care of the farm, and she will be running Thursday’s CSA pick-up.
I apologize for the late newsletter this week—with Pizza Night preparations and then family visiting, the computer tasks got sent to the bottom of the list. As it should be (and has to be) from time to time. Still, better late than never! And we do have some really wonderful news to share with you all.
Pizza Night was beautiful and we thank all who were able to come out! Thanks to you, we raised an additional $600 for the Farm Share Program (and ate 32 large pies!). Our mission is to make local food more accessible to everyone, and we are SO humbled and thankful for your support in this. Together with our t-shirt fundraiser funds, we’ve raised $2000 to subsidize CSA shares, and NOFA-VT will match up to $1000 of that!
The Farm Share Program helps us subsidize CSA shares for limited-income individuals and families to increase access to nourishing, fresh local food. Through the program, income-eligible folks can get a CSA share half-off. This works by the farm paying for 25% and NOFA-VT paying for 25% of the share.
To be eligible to participate in the NOFA-VT Farm Share Program, your household’s monthly income may not exceed the following income limits:
1-Person Household: $1,832
2-Person Household: $2,470
3-Person Household: $3,108
4-Person Household: $3,747
5-Person Household: $4,385
6-Person Household: $5,023
7-Person Household: $5,663
8-Person Household: $6,304
Occasionally, NOFA-VT will run out of matching funds, so if you are planning to go through the Farm Share Program, it’s best to do so early. To sign up for a subsidized share, you can apply directly through NOFA-VT: http://nofavt.org/farmshare/applicant
There are only 3 more weeks before the Fall Harvest Share begins! Sign up by 9/30 to ensure your share. You can sign up on our website: https://goodheartfarmstead.com/our-csa/
This week’s harvest:
- Potatoes
- Tomatoes or Green Beans
- Mizuna
- Radishes (salad or watermelon radishes)
- Leeks or Onions
- Herbs: Parsley or Thyme
How to use Mizuna:
This mustard green is tender, slightly spicy and very delicious. They are great roughly chopped and wilted atop of hot dishes such as stir-fries, boiled potatoes, eggs, quiches, etc. For more on Mizuna, visit SeriousEats.com
We wish you all a delicious week!
