This happens every year – all of the sudden the hillside and mountains are bright with fall foliage.

One week we’re wondering when the colors will pop. The next, we’re marveling at the colors.
Transitions are like that. So much quietly shifting behind the scenes, under the bark, at the roots, within each leaf. We don’t see it, and then we do. Like the seasons, we’re also shifting.
In 2013 we harvested our first CSA share.
This month, Edge delivered the last CSA share.
In between we grew for hundreds of people. Families, individuals, restaurants, businesses, and the local food shelf. We raised money for low-income folks to access local food. We hosted pizza nights, flower picking, and weekly CSA pick-ups where we got to share this land and harvests with you.

We began with 18 CSA shares. At its peak, our CSA had over 100 members, many of them households. This summer, we wound it back down and called it a “Secret CSA,” as we moved through our own behind-the-scenes transition.
Now, for the first time in 12 years, we’re not offering pre-sales or CSA sign-ups (not even secret ones).
Now, we’re moving into a new season.
I want to tell you exactly what that season is. I want to tell you what Good Heart Farmstead will look like in the future, but we’re not there yet.
Right now, we’re letting ourselves be in Autumn. This season of bright beauty and letting go. This season of making space and putting the fields to rest.
Two things I can tell you about the future: there will be writing, and there will be stonework.
Writing – you can find my writing about food, growing, creativity, and all the sprouts up from the soil over on my newsletter, Art & Soil.
Stonework – If you know Edge, you know he loves rocks. Climbing them and working with them. He now offers stonework installation and repair including patios, walkways, and stonewalls. Be in touch with him if you’re looking for stonework and hardscaping.
Thank you for being part of Good Heart.
This farm is made of everyone who’s eaten, visited, and supported us over the last 12 years, and the nourishment of that connection persists.
We’re excited to see what the coming seasons hold, and we hope to stay connected as we grow in new ways.
In Good Heart,
Katie and Edge
